Charles "Charlie" N. Jones, aka Elvis, 68, of Smithsburg, Maryland passed away surrounded by the love his life, Judy, and his loving family, on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Born on July 26, 1942 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John W. and Mildred (Murray) Jones, Sr. His step-mother, Linda Shoemaker Jones, preceded him in death.
Charlie obtained the rank of Corporal while serving in Germany and France for the U.S. Army from 1960-1963. He continued his service with the U.S. Army Reserves until 1966.
Charlie was a member of the Central United Brethren Church/Church of the Savior in Rohrersville, Maryland; the Blue Ridge Riding Club in Boonsboro, the Dixon Troxell American Legion Post 211 in Funkstown and the Utility Workers Union of American Local 102.
Charlie retired in 2001 after 24 years with Allegheny Power where he fulfilled his lifelong passion to work as a Lineman.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara "Judy" A. (Shoemaker) Jones; his two daughters, Pamela A. and her husband and Charlie's HayHut Distributor business partner Craig Mickel of Smithsburg, Maryland and Kimberly K. Craig of Boonsboro, Maryland; his son Darin S. Craig of Hagerstown; two sisters, Irene Briechner of Waco, Texas and Anna "Annie" Bork of Hagerstown; his brother, John "Bill" Jones and his wife Barbara of Hagerstown; his four grandchildren, Casey Mickel Eckstine and her husband Chris, Caitlin "Sweet Checks" Mickel, and Dakota and Tanner Craig; and many loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friends Leroy Reeder and Mark Shoemaker, his buddy Todd Semler and the "forever thorn in his side" Jenny Reeder. Charlie was a life-long avid horseman and spent many hours with his beloved yellow Lab Zoe until her death in 2010. Charlie will be greatly missed by his loyal black Lab Moe.
Charlie was preceded in death by his infant son, David Wayne Jones in 1965; his two sisters, Helen Beckley and Jean Briechner; and his five brothers, George, Richard, Joseph and Walter Jones and Maurice Browning.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Rev. Victor Moon will officiate. Burial will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the Marine Corps League of Hagerstown and Amvets Post 10 of Hagerstown.
Charlie's family invites you to visit with them from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the funeral home in celebration of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Charlie's generous spirit be honored as he lived, through the giving of food items to any local food bank and these items will be received at the funeral home during the viewing hours.
