Charles "Bob" W. Martin, 96, of Beaver Creek, Maryland passed away peacefully from this life on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Maryland.
Born on May 5, 1915, in Mt. Aetna, Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles C. and Carrie A. (Lung) Martin.
Bob was a 1933 graduate of Boonsboro High School in Boonsboro, Maryland.
He was a lifetime member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Beaver Creek. Bob was also a member of the Funkstown American Legion Post 211 in Funkstown, Maryland.
Bob was a World War II Veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force as an Intelligence Specialist stationed with the 399th Bomb Group - 4th Air Force Base in March Field, California. He was proud to be an American.
During his working career, Bob worked as a metal fabricator for New York Central Iron Works in Hagerstown, Maryland for thirty five years. Afterward, Bob worked for Pangborn Corporation in Hagerstown for ten years, retiring in 1982.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty nine years, Virginia M. (Winders) Martin; two daughters, Connie and her husband, Thomas Morgan of Dundalk, Maryland and Carole and her husband, Robert Stoner of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; Chris and Ronnie Stoner, and Colleen Morgan; and three great-grandchildren, Amanda, Julia, and Zachary Stoner. Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Seward; and two brothers, J. Guy Martin and Earl Martin.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February, 17, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. The Rev. Eric R. Moser will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery in Beaver Creek. Military honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 of Boonsboro.
Family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the funeral home. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open after 12 noon on Thursday.
