Mr. Charles A. Wenzel, 92, of Ijamsville, died on November 16 at Kline Hospice House. He was the devoted husband of the late Mildred G. Wenzel. Born on August 31, 1924 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John L. and Rosa Pfister Wenzel.
Mr. Wenzel is survived by two sons, John S. Wenzel (Louisa) and Thomas E. Wenzel; a daughter, Ann M. Wenzel; seven beloved grandchildren: Stephen, David, Joseph and Laura Wenzel and Cristen (fiance Ben Reid), Kevin and Brendan Waters; and brother James L. Wenzel. He was preceded in death by his siblings Lawrence (Louise), Ruth and Joseph Wenzel; Ann (Al) Bauman and Rosemary (Jack) Slaughter; and daughter-in-law Helen Wenzel.
Charles retired from a 30-year career at the U.S. Government Printing Office. He was a long time fan of the Baltimore Orioles and (then) Baltimore Colts. Over the years he enjoyed gardening, bowling, fishing, organizing and calling bingo, and was active in his church community.
The family would like to thank the staff of Country Meadows of Frederick retirement community, Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center of Frederick, and Kline Hospice House of Mt. Airy for the friendship and loving care given to Charles during his stay at each.
Receptions will be on Tuesday, November 22 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Boulevard, Mount Airy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, November 23 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, Father Michael Jendrek officiating. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Wenzel's name to St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Rd, Ijamsville, MD 21754.
