Charles Uvaas

March 22, 1929 — February 24, 2014

Mr. Charles Martin Uvaas, 84, of Frederick, formerly of Laurel passed away on February 24, 2014, at Tranquility Assisted Living, Frederick.
Born on March 22, 1929, in Kentucky and a native of Chicago, he was the son of the late Lilith Bendixon and Elmer M. Uvaas. He served in the Air Force from 1948 to 1954, met and married Liberty Bunn of NC while stationed at Bowling Green Air Force Base. Charles graduated from George Washington University with a degree in Electrical Engineering with continuing education classes in quantum physics.  He retired from NASA in Greenbelt, MD after a career of more than 30 years.
Surviving are  daughters Janet Uvaas Hagan of Brunswick, MD and Jennifer Uvaas Leake (Charles) of Corryton, TN;. two step children Judith Wilson Harrell and Jeff B. Wilson Jr. (Joann) of Virginia; grandchildren : Angela Hagan Lakin (Tommy); April Hagan Poole (Carl), Amber Hagan, and Amanda Hagan all of Maryland; Charles “David” Leake (Tabitha) of TN; John Wilson and Jason Wilson (Belinda) of Virginia; great grandchildren: Katelyn , Jenna , Ryan, Cash, Carlee, Colton and Lilith all of MD; a sister Juanita Pierce (Robert) of CA.
Mr. Uvaas was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, his parents and his sister Lorraine Uvaas  Deal of Califorina.  The family wishes to thank the staff of Tranquility Assisted Living in MD for all their loving and wonderful care.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Friday, February 28,  at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 1 with Rev. Steven Rose of Fellowship Baptist Church, Middletown officiating.
Interment, Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, Marriotsville, MD.
