Charles Sumpter
June 2, 1931 — August 22, 2017
Charles "Buck" Sumpter, 86, of Frederick, Maryland passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017 after a lengthy illness.
Born June 2, 1931 in Jonesville, Virginia, he was the son of the late Charley and Lizzie Sumpter. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Reba Williams Sumpter.
He attended Flatwoods High School near Jonesville.
He served in the United States Army from 1952-1954 with most of that time in Korea.
Buck was gifted in designing and installing patterns in floor coverings and was in business for himself for many years. He had many hobbies but his favorite was gunsmithing and restoring older guns.
In addition to his wife, Reba, he is survived by two sons, Gary and wife, Kandy, of Charlestown, WV and Terry and wife, Melanie, of Rohrersville, MD; four grandchildren, Bekki, Kenton, Kaitie and Kyle; three great-grandchildren, Chloe, Caleb and Cooper; and two brothers, Cecil and Bill Sumpter both of Jonesville, VA.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Helen Cress; two brothers, Paul and Neal Jerrell; and a grandson, Jeremy Sumpter.
Graveside services will be held 12:15 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick. Rev. Nicholas L. Ruple will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday. August 27th at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.
