Charles K. Sanders, 77, of Knoxville, Maryland, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at his son's home while surrounded by his children.
Born in Hyattsville, Maryland, he was the son of the late Lawson F. and Margorie G. (Gruver) Sanders.
Charles provided honorable service to the National Guard.
He was a Union Sheet Metal Employee with Local Union 100 for over 50 years.
Charles was an active member and Past Master of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge #120 A.F. & A.M. in Alexandria, Virginia. He was also a member of the Scottish Right of Free Masonry, the Masonic Lodge #191 A.F. & A.M. in Brunswick, Maryland, and the Shriner's Kena Division.
He was an avid motorcyclist and a member of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club in Frederick, Maryland. He participated in several fundraising rides for the Maryland Salem Children's Trust through the Iron Butt Association.
Charles was a loving husband and father who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Ross) Sanders; two sons, Ross H . Sanders and wife Sharon of Indiana, and Henry "Hank" Sanders and wife Juanese of Hagerstown; one daughter, Teresa A. Burt of Alabama; one sister, Elizabeth "Beth" Rogers of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren, Danny Sanders of Virginia, Scottie Bailer, David Nunamaker, Jr., and Jessica Nunamaker, all of Hagerstown; and one great-granddaughter, Sophia Bailer of Virginia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William B. and Fred H. Sanders.
A Masonic funeral ceremony followed by a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Sandy Hook United Methodist Church, 19018 Sandy Hook Road, Knoxville, Maryland, 21758. Pastor Doug Frame will officiate. Mr. Sanders ashes will be spread over his home place in a private ceremony to be held for family and close friends.
