Mr. Charles Mumaw, 85, of Frederick, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at Kline Hospice House, Mount Airy. He was the husband of Frances Schultz Mumaw.
Born June 6, 1924, in Weverton, he was the son of Alpha C. and Alice Coulter Mumaw.
Mr. Mumaw was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He was a career federal employee with 33 years of service, beginning as apprentice machinist at the Navy Yard, Washington, becoming a tool and diemaker, an inspector at Fort Detrick and retired from the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, as quality assurance manager.
He was a private pilot; Civil Air Patrol flight officer; Commander of Coast Guard Auxiliary; member of Masonic Lodge 58, 32nd degree Mason Scottist Rite, Baltimore; member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; member of AARP; member of American Legion Post 0011 and life member of VFW Post 3285.
He enjoyed his grandchildren, flying, sports, hunting, fishing, boating, traveling in an RV and using his handyman skills. He was a member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren and then member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren for many years.
He is survived by four children, Patsy Sirasky and husband, Neil, of Perry Hall, Charles E. Mumaw Jr. and wife, Linda, of Hampstead, N.C., Janice Crabbs and husband, Marty, of Frederick, and Gregory Mumaw and wife, Jodene, of Smithsburg; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna Bonam of Canton, Ohio; and a brother, Luther Mumaw of Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Jewell Irby Mumaw; and a brother, Norman Mumaw.

Services:
The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. The Rev. Lynn Wilson will officiate.
Interment will be private.
