Charles Edward (Sam) Michael of Lewistown died on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Emogene Harper Michael.
He was a World War II veteran who served his country as a fireman 1st class aboard the USS Macon and USS Brooklyn.
Mr. Michael retired from Farmer’s Cooperative.  He was a talented mechanic who could fix almost anything, and was an avid gardener, planting a large vegetable garden every year, and sharing his vegetables with family and friends.  He was a life member of the Lewistown District Volunteer Fire Department and the Cold Deer Hunting and Fishing Club, and a member of the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post #11.
In addition to his wife, Emogene, he is survived by their three daughters and their husbands, Carole (Greg) Zimmerman and Gayle (Charles) Frushour, both of Frederick, and Susan (Shane) O’Neill of Cascade; as well as six grandchildren, Charlie, Jamie, Jason and Justin Frushour, Mike Metz and Krystal O’Neill.  He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Sarah, Garrett, Katie, Ally, Amanda, Billy and Wade Frushour, Kyle Shorb, Chase Palamar and Brynn Metz; as well as three sisters, Mary Knott, Mildred (Roy) Cline, and Ida Boyd.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, MD.  The funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, September 21st at the Stauffer Funeral Home in Thurmont with the Rev. Elza Hurst officiating.  Pallbearers will be Mr. Michael’s grandsons.
Following interment at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway (U.S. Route 15 North), Frederick, MD there will be a luncheon and time of fellowship at the Lewistown District Volunteer Fire Department.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Amy Jones and her staff, Dr. Mark Goldstein and the staff at the James M Stockman Cancer Institute, and the nurses and staff on 2C at Frederick Memorial Hospital, as well as to the Hospice of Frederick staff for the care and support provided to Mr. Michael and his family.
