Col. Charles Hayden, retired Army, 85 , of Ijamsville, MD passed away Friday, December 12, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of Elsie Hayden for almost 64 years.

Born January 30, 1929 in Washington, D.C. he was the son of the late Charles William and Lillian Hudson Hayden.

Mr. Hayden proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and Vietnam.  He was also in charge of missile groups during the Korean War and retired after 30 years of service, where he worked as a Logistics Expert at the Pentagon. He is also retired from the Frederick County Board of Education where he was in charge of Logistics.   He loved working in the yard.  He loved animals especially his Boston Bull Terrior Arby.

He is survived by his children Charles Hayden, Jr. of Charles Town, WV, Carol Hayden of Rockville, MD and Keith Hayden and wife Debbie of Frederick, MD; grandchildren Geri White and husband Chris, Jonathan Hayden and Kelsey Hayden; great-grandchildren Abby, Alex, Ava and Amelia White; brother Carl Hayden and wife Dorothy "Dottie" and sister-in-law Kathy Hayden; nieces and nephews Bobby Hayden, Debbie Dunworth, Denise Sampson and husband Jesse, Tommy Hayden, Michael Hayden and wife Amanda and Laura Chusakul and husband Pin and numerous great-nieces and nephews.  Charles will also be greatly missed by his daughter-in-law Debbie and everyone that knew him.

He is preceded in death by brothers Frank and Willard "Mac" Hayden.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Frederick Co. Humane Society, 217 W. Patrick St., Frederick, MD 21701.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 6-8PM and Wednesday, December 17 from 2-3PM where a service will begin at 3PM.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
