Charles Emrich

May 19, 1957 — June 23, 2018

Charles Frederick Emrich, 61, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, June 23 at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, University of Maryland, Baltimore.  Born on May 19, 1957, in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Edgar Gilman Emrich and Rachel Lee Willis Emrich.

Charles graduated from Rock Creek School in 1976.  He was an avid swimmer and participated in the Special Olympics, earning many medals.  He placed second in his division in the 1975 International Special Olympian Games at Central Michigan University and was recognized at the Alvin G. Quinn Memorial Hall of Fame Banquet in 1997 for this achievement.

He resided with his parents and was an active member of Thurmont United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and greeter every Sunday, helped in the clothes closet and assisted wherever needed until he moved to a group home in Frederick in 2010.

Mr. Emrich was also an active member of Boy Scout Troop #1092 in Frederick.  He was employed by Goodwill Industries as a processor.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and doctors at Shock Trauma, especially Dr. Schwarzbauer, for the excellent care they gave Charles.  Also, a special thanks to Charles' caregivers at Community Living, especially Taj Abdullah.

He is survived by his sisters Margo Trexler and Carol Emrich as well as nephews Gregory Trexler and Scott Trexler.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 27 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street, Thurmont.  A celebration of Charles' life journey will take place on Friday, June 29 at 10:00 am at Thurmont United Methodist Church, 13880 Long Road in Thurmont.  Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of Thurmont United Methodist Church at the above address.
