Charles (Chuck) Gilbert Dalrymple passed peacefully at home on Sunday, April 14th at the age of 93. Chuck was born in Valier, Illinois on July 26, 1930, to James and Nancy May Dalrymple. He grew up in Windsor, Ontario. He received his undergraduate degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Texas Western College (UTEP) in El Paso, where he met his beloved wife of 70 years, Jann Thomason Dalrymple. After graduation, he accepted a job at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory in Maryland. Shortly after, he was drafted into the Army where he served for 2 years during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he returned to the Naval Ordnance Laboratory until he accepted a position at Vitro Laboratory. During his time at Vitro, he attended Catholic University Law School at night and received his law degree in 1961.
After law school, he became employed as an attorney with the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office. He was later named as one of two of the County’s first appointed zoning Hearing Examiners. He thereafter went into private practice, working for the rest of his career at Linowes and Blocher in Silver Spring, practicing zoning and land use law. He retired as a partner in 1992.
Chuck was an avid sports fan. He spent many years coaching little league, football, baseball, and softball for Wheaton Boys Club, where he also served as President. He had an active interest in politics throughout his whole life, including participating in campaigns at the local government level and being an arm-chair expert at the national level. He loved watching and playing golf, and he was a member and served as Club legal counsel at Manor Country Club where he had many close friends. His other interests included skiing, reading, crossword puzzles, music and musical theater. His happy place was vacationing at his cottage with his family in Southampton, Ontario, on the banks of Lake Huron.
Chuck was known by all for his quick wit, his brilliant mind, and his love of family and friends. His survivors include his loving wife, Jann Dalrymple, his children, Valerie Rollins, Jackie Dalrymple Perry, and Bob Dalrymple (wife, Jane Dalrymple). He was predeceased in 2007 by his youngest child, Jim Dalrymple. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and their spouses, 18 great grandchildren, and 7 nieces and nephews.
