Charles Clopper

Charles "Tubby" F. Clopper, 85, of Boonsboro, Maryland, died suddenly on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at his home.

Born on December 16, 1924 in Boonsboro, he was the son of the late Thomas S. and Mary L. (Haller) Clopper, Sr.

His wife, Kathryn E. (Smith) Clopper preceded him in death on May 26, 1985.

Mr. Clopper was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a lifetime resident of Boonsboro having graduated from Boonsboro High School.

He was a member of the Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in Boonsboro.

Following his military service, Mr. Clopper was employed by Fairchild Industries.  He later worked in Custodial Services for the Washington County Board of Education having retired after working his entire career at Boonsboro High School.  he and his wife owned and operated Clopper Florist in Boonsboro.

Tubby was a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro, the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 378 in Hagerstown, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles # 1758 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Clopper had his own greenhouse and enjoyed raising orchids as well as collecting model trains.

He is survived by his nieces, Connie Myers of Wiliamsport, Maryland, Marilyn McGlothin of Oak Hill, Virginia, Linda Kendle of Funkstown, Maryland and Tina Hensley of Boonsboro; and his nephews, Larry May of Boonsboro, Donald Shoemaker, Jr. and Thomas Shoemaker of Frederick, Maryland, Edward Clopper of Funkstown and Raymond Shoemaker of Asher, Oklahoma.  He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews and great-great neices and nephews as well as his special friend Gloria Bragunier of Hagerstown, Maryland.

Mr. Clopper was preceded in death by his two sisters, Christine Shoemaker and Nancy Kretzer, his brother Thomas S. "Dodge" Clopper, Jr., his nephew Craig Shoemaker, and his niece, Susan Seals.

A funeral ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 9, 2010 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.  Rev. Robert G. Brennan, Jr. will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.  Military Honors will be rendered by the Marine Corps League of Hagerstown and Amvets Post 10 of Hagerstown.

The family will recieve friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, 134 South Main Street, Boonsboro, Maryland, 21713.
