Charles Weddle

Charles "Buddy" Worthington Weddle, 77, of Yellow Springs passed away with his loving family by his side Monday, September 12, 2016, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. For nearly 60 years, he was the loving husband of Ruth (Gregg) Weddle.

Born November 1, 1938, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Paupa A. (Gue) and Robert E. Weddle, Sr.

He was a graduate of Frederick High School Class of 1956. He worked for Frederick Lumber & Supply Co., Wicks Lumber and retired from Cavetown Planing Mill Co. as an estimator.

In 1975, Buddy and his brother, Bobby, and sister, Jeannie, started a country band known as Jeannie C. and the Country Caravan. A popular band over the tri-state area, they played on shows with some of the biggest names in country music. They cut several albums and performed at the Inaugural Reception for President Jimmy Carter. He played for a number of years with the bluegrass band Blue Ridge Partners and enjoyed playing at the Woodsmen of the World in Hagerstown.

In his youth, Buddy played baseball with the Frederick American Little League, Babe Ruth, American Legion and the Frederick Hustlers baseball teams. He also got invited to two Baltimore Orioles tryout camps.

He enjoyed going to yard sales and auctions and was an avid Yankees and Redskins fan.

In addition to his wife he is survived by daughter, Gina L. Lidie and husband, Tom, of Frederick; granddaughter, Carly P. Thomas of Frederick, whom he loved and adored more than anything; son-in-law, Carl C. Thomas, Jr. of Frederick; sister-in-law, Linda A. Johnson and husband, Mike, of New Market; various nieces and nephews; step grandsons, Thomas Lidie and wife, Jaime, of SC and Michael Lidie and wife, Kristy, of Frederick; five step great-grandchildren; he will also be sorely missed by granddog, Sophie and many friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine P. Thomas; sister, Jeannie Shuff Class; brothers, Bobby Weddle and Butchie Weddle; brothers-in-law, Chuck Gregg and Darrell Gregg.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2016, at the funeral home with Deacon Debbie Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
