Charles Aikens

April 20, 1927 — December 3, 2010

Charles E. Aikens, Jr., 83, formerly of Ford Avenue in Boonsboro, Maryland died on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Fahrney-Keedy Home and Village in Boonsboro.

Born on April 20, 1927, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Virgie M. (Walters) Aikens.  His first wife, Elizabeth F. (Haupt) Aikens preceded him in death in 1999.

Mr. Aikens was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy.

He was a retired employee of the Maryland Department of Corrections where he had been employed as a Maintenance Officer.

Mr. Aikens was a member of the Hagerstown Bible Church.

He is survived by his current wife, Frances M. Aikens of Hagerstown; his daughter, Linda and her husband Jim Hansen of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his son, Charles D. Aikens and his wife  Patti of Hagerstown; two stepdaughters, Kelly Rineford of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania and Rosie Lucier of Clearfield, Pennsylvania; and two half-sister's Lena Lemeaster of Bunker Hill, West Virginia, and Debbie Wolfe of Crookeville, Tennessee.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, nine  great-grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter Heidi Aikens.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.  Rev. Dale R. Carver will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.

Friends may visit beginning at 12 noon on Monday, December 6, 2010 at the funeral home where the family will be present to receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hagerstown Bible Church, 203 Summit Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740 or the Hagerstown Area Pregnancy Center, 109 West Baltimore Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740.
