Mrs. Cathryn Rozanne Greene Dooly died at her home in Crestwood Village on Thursday December 18, 2014, following a decade long struggle with dementia. She was surrounded by her family and faithful caregivers. She was the wife of the late William G. Dooly Jr. for 58 happy years. For the past 3 years she could be seen walking in Crestwood with her loyal caregiver Leila Lopez. The daughter of James Floyd Greene and Marie Louise Dupre, she was born on January 3, 1922, in Waco, Texas and grew up in a big close-knit Catholic family in Birmingham, Alabama. She married Bill Dooly in 1942, and they adored each other. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 3 brothers – Arnold, Floyd and Gayle Greene, 1 sister Mary Louise Hanna, 1 daughter Nancy J. White and 1 granddaughter Heidi N. Hintze. She is survived by 2 brothers R. Gaudin and Edward A. Greene, 2 sons William G. Dooly III and Richard L. Dooly, 3 daughters Patricia A. Engleman, Louise D. Runion and Cathryn R. Dooly Jr., 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She spent the majority of her life in the D.C. areas of Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Rockville, Clarksville and Frederick. She was the chauffer, laundress, social events planner and the chief cook and bottle washer to her brood of 6 and her husband Bill. In her spare time, she refinished furniture and developed a love of and a plan for starting an antique business. In 1973, she and Bill moved to Clarksville, MD. where they had a vintage home with an antique shop attached – called Grey Goose Antiques and Art. After 18 years of antique auctions and buying trips up and down the East Coast, she and Bill retired to Crestwood Village in Frederick. She was a devout Catholic, devoted mother, delightful grandmother and a damn good Bridge player. We would like to thank Mom’s beautiful, selfless caregivers: Leila Lopez, Celina Quintanilla, Morena Bolanos and Vera Grenados who brought with them Latino music, dancing and singing, delicious Latin food and a genuine compassionate love – illuminating the darkness of a mind in the final stage of dementia.
Services will be held on her 93rd birthday at 10:30 A.M. on January 3, 2015 at the Shrine of St. Jude Catholic Church at 12701 Viers Mill Rd. Rockville, MD. 20853. Interment will be held at Parklawn Cemetery (across the street) at 12899 Viers Mill Rd. immediately following.
