Mrs. Catherine S. "Kay" Hoffman, longtime Frederick resident died Friday February 24, 2017 at Homewood at Crumland Farms. She was the wife of the late Robert K Hoffman, whom she married on October 24, 1947.
Born April 30, 1920 in Hoosick Falls, New York she was the daughter of the late Kasmir Charles and Stasia (Conski) Stempek.
Kay was a decorated flight nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II and later served as a private duty nurse in Frederick.
Kay and her husband settled in Frederick in 1948. She loved the area and the friendly Culler Avenue neighborhood.
Kay volunteered with the FMH Auxiliary at the Select Seconds Thrift Shop. She enjoyed swimming at Hood College and was a member of the Women's 9-hole Golf Group at the VFW. She was an avid gardener, growing beautiful flowers and the tastiest tomatoes that were shared with friends and neighbors. She enjoyed playing bridge and taking walks around Culler Lake. Kay was a longtime member of St. John's Catholic Church. She made wonderful friends throughout her many endeavors.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane of Oregon and Karen of Florida; a brother, Kasmir Stempek of Hoosick Falls, New York, and nieces and nephews, including special niece Ellen.
She was predeceased by siblings John, Mary, Nell and precious companion Yo-Yo.
Private services will be held in Hoosick Falls, New York at a later date.
