Mrs. Catherine Nicoludis Flizanes, 78, of Mount Airy, MD went to join her Heavenly Father and family on Tuesday, March 17, 2009.
She was born on October 15, 1930, in McKeesport, PA to the late Michael Nicoludis and Anna Katsarelis Nicoludis.
She was married on May 16, 1954. She had been a member of the Annunciation Church in White Oak, PA prior to her move to MD in 1974. Catherine was the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her sisters Marina, Evangeline (Angie) and Despina (Florence), and her brothers John, Nicodemus, and Daedalus (Ted).
Surviving are her beloved and devoted husband of 54 years James G. Flizanes, daughters Anna Gue, Frederick MD, and Connie Zaruba (William), Mount Airy, MD, grandsons James Gue III, Biglerville, PA, Lucas Gue (Donna), Sioux Falls, SD, Michael and Nicodemus Zaruba, Mount Airy, MD and great granddaughters Katelyn Gue, Sioux Falls, SD and Raelyn Gue, Biglerville, PA, godson Nick Hanzivasilis, Eighty-Four, PA, sisters-in-law E. Virginia Nicoludis of PA and Nan Nicoludis of CA, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces and nephews.
Catherine was a member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, Baltimore, MD. She was one of the primary advocates for the founding of Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Frederick, MD where she was proclaimed "Mother of the Church" on June 2, 1991. She lived her faith to the fullest.
Catherine's love of children led her to baby sit for many years after moving to MD. During the 1980's she and James were avid square dancers. She was a 20-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 191, Mount Airy. Catherine loved Greek cooking, gardening, and working with arts and crafts. In later years her favorite pastimes were reading and watching the birds from her kitchen window. Her last few months were enjoyed at the Mount Airy Senior Center where she joined friends for lunch, movies and bingo. She was a devoted daughter who took care of her own mother throughout her early married years. She always showed the utmost concern and empathy for others. Catherine's true happiness was, "When my girls are happy, I am happy."
Catherine was a 35-year cancer survivor and courageously endured the numerous health issues she faced during the past 12 years. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Drs. Hope McIntyre, John Vitarello, James Grissom, Brian O'Connor, William Miller, Camillo Toro and the staff at Washington Hospital Center's Coronary Intensive Care Unit for the loving care she received.

Services: Funeral Services will be held on Monday March, 23, 2009 at 12:00pm. at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 24 West Preston Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. The family will recieve friends from 11:00am until time of service at the church. Interment will take place in McKeesport, PA.
