Catherine "Libby" Burgan
March 22, 1919 — March 29, 2016
Catherine Elizabeth Burgan, 97, most recently of Williamsport, Maryland, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016 with family by her side.
Born March 22, 1919, "Libby" as she was affectionately known, was the daughter of Orville and Edna Mae Keadle.
She married her husband Theodore E. Burgan, a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, in 1949; he passed away in June 1961. She chose to never remarry and supported her family as a single working mother while residing for more than fifty years on Main Street in Boonsboro.
She is survived by her only son Edward Burgan; his wife Tina and their three children Geoffrey, David and Michael; her sister Vivian Hyde of Hagerstown; her brother Harry Keadle and his wife Frances of Williamsport and more than two dozen nieces, nephews and their children.
A graduate of Middletown High School, she spent her life working tirelessly in Maryland, including many years of service at Fairchild Aviation in Hagerstown, Boonsboro Bank and Washington County Hospital. In her later years, she lived happily in Summerland Manor in Hagerstown and the Williamsport Retirement Village.
A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 2.
In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to the Mt. Lena United Methodist Church, 21234 Mt. Lena Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713.
