Catherine R. Jenkins - Sanders

Catherine Jenkins-Sanders, affectionately known as "Cat", passed away on October 12, 2023, at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, Maryland with her loving husband at her side.

She was born on January 16, 1972, to the late Thomas Joseph Jenkins and Caryl Ann Mitchell- Jenkins.

Born and raised in Frederick, Cat attended Governor Thomas Johnson High School before pursuing further studies at Frederick Community College. After her education, she embarked on a career at Mamsi / United Healthcare, where she dedicated over twenty years of service.

Those who knew Cat best will remember her infectious laughter and warm-hearted nature. She possessed an innate ability to make everyone feel like family; indeed, she never met a stranger. Furthermore, Cat had a deep passion for supporting veterans and actively sought opportunities to contribute to their well-being. Her compassionate nature shone through as she listened attentively to those seeking solace or guidance and offered valuable advice.

Cat was a member of the American Legion Post 168, Amvets Post 7, and the Frederick Elks 684. Cat also organized a support group that she referred to as her Army Moms, consisting of fellow mothers and including wives of military families whom she bonded with when her son entered the military.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Cat found joy in numerous hobbies and interests. Steaming crabs was her therapy – she would always ensure vinegar was present during crab feeds. Nature also beckoned her outdoors, whether it be camping, fishing, tending to her garden, sitting by a bonfire, or relishing tranquil moments along sandy beaches or floating in a pool. Additionally, Cat played an active role in supporting her daughter Caroline's activities such as basketball, dance, and cheerleading – true moments of pride for both mother and daughter. In a testament to her creativity, Cat had a knack for inventing new acronyms like GTS “Google that Shitake!” and DPP “diet Dr. Pepper” that added an extra spark to conversations.

Cat is survived by her husband of fifteen years Craig Sanders, children; Joe Jenkins, Ashton “Mitch” Jenkins (Ashley), and Caroline Sanders. Grandchildren; Cameron, Noah, Charles and Samuel, sister; Beth Garris, niece Rebecca, and nephew Michael, and great-nephew Zane and great-niece Bella. She also leaves behind her cat Onyx and her pups Gage and Gabi affectionately known as the “Shitz”. She will be missed by her family, colleagues, her “army moms”, Legion, Amvets and Elk families, her camping buddies and fur babies.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by dear friend Christine Miller, and beloved dog ShiAnn.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 21 from 1 to 4 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street, Thurmont.  A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation at 4:00 PM at the funeral home.  Interment will be private.
