Catherine Lydia (Zimmerman) Hessler, aged 94, of Walkersville, MD died on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, a few days after suffering a stroke. Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years Bernard P. Hessler, Jr. and three brothers Benjamin, William and Daniel. Born January 26, 1922 in Hoagstown, PA she was the daughter of the late Harry Zimmerman and Deborah and step-father Owen O'Sullivan. At a young age she relocated with her family to Washington, D.C., graduating from Eastern High School. Catherine worked at the Navy Yard during WWII as a clerk typist and also as an air raid warden. She then worked at Ourisman Chevrolet and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in D.C.as an office manager from 1967-1987. Catherine and Bernard relocated to Walkersville in 1990 to spend more time with their children and grandchildren. Catherine loved to play Bingo, a pastime she shared with her husband and granddaughter Rebecca, and could be found on Thursday's at the Walkersville Fire and Rescue Companies hall. Catherine is survived by her two children Timothy Hessler and his wife Rachel and Deborah Austin, both of Walkersville. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Katharine Brickman, Frances Grisier, Victoria Hessler, Mary Hessler, Michael Harrison, Jenna Harrison and Rebecca Austin and three great-grandchildren: Kaylee Harrison, Brinn Parker, and James Brickman. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville, MD on Thursday, February 18 from 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Timothy's Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 10 am. Interment Glade Cemetery.
