Mrs. Catherine Vera Merritt Goebel, 89, of Frederick, MD passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Homewood at Crumland Farms. She was the wife of the late Irvin Goebel and her first husband the late Robert Frederick Jackson.
Born June 15, 1923 in August, GA she was the daughter of the late George W. and Willie Lee James Merritt.
Mrs. Goebel was a graduate of Harriet Tubman High School, August, GA. Catherine worked for the National Institute of Health as a telephone operator and also the CIA prior to her retirement. Catherine was very family oriented and enjoyed swimming, gardening, traveling and playing card games, especially peaknuckle.
She is survived by her son Robert F. Jackson and wife Susan C. of Frederick, daughter-in-law Jacquelyn Jackson of Tampa, FL and son-in-law John Jenkins and wife Janice; grandchildren Robert H. Jackson and wife Michelle Bredeson, Aubrey W. Jackson and wife Elizabeth, Kara Jefferies and husband Sam, Eryn Jenkins, William D. Jackson, Alec P. Jackson, Debbie Ramano, Sadie Peckroll, Jr. and wife Karen, Phil Monte; great-grandson William Jonah Jackson and nephew Randy Merritt and wife Bootsie of Frederick.
She is preceded in death by her son William Merritt Jackson, daughter Linda Dorothy Jenkins and son Sadie Peckroll.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 12 at 10 AM at Frederick Presbyterian Church, 115 W. 2nd St., Frederick MD. Pastor Eric Meyers will officiate.
Interment will be at a later date.
