Catharina Rinta

Mrs. Catharina Maria Steenbergen Rinta, 94, of Walkersville, died peacefully Saturday morning, August 1, 2015 at Glade Valley Nursing Home.

Born February 21, 1921 in Amsterdam, Holland, she was the daughter of the late Willem Steenbergen and Jacoba Adriana Van Der Steen-Steenbergen.

She came to America in 1947, being sponsored by her American Pen-Pal, Carol Garrett, and husband, Charles, of Madison, Ohio.

She moved to Maryland in 1994 to live closer to her son and his family. She was a member of Walkersville Senior Citizens. She enjoyed writing poetry and taking pictures.

Catharina is survived by her son, Henry Rinta, and his wife, Sharon, of Walkersville; her daughter, Chris Rinta, and husband, James Lohman, of Beavercreek, Ohio; a grandson, Andrew Rinta and his wife, Sara, of Halethorpe, MD; one great-grandson, Alexander Rinta of Halethorpe; a sister-in-law, Anneke, in Holland; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews in Holland.

She will be remembered by her special friend, Carol Garrett of Ohio.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Cor Hofstra and brother-in-law, Kees Hofstra; her brothers, Chris and Willem Steenbergen; sister-in-law, Annie Steenbergen; and one nephew, Wouter Steenbergen, all in Holland.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 6th. Officiating will be the Rev. Philip Curran of Glade United Church of Christ.

Interment will follow at Glade Cemetery.
