Carolyn Beth Smith-Clark of Mt. Airy, MD age 73, peacefully departed this world November 24, 2022.
Born in Lehi Utah on October 15, 1949, to Madge and Carl Harris. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Carolyn was a woman of family, community, and faith.
Carolyn’s family includes her husband Burton A. Clark, six children: Samantha, Hope (Bob), Spring (Donavon), Rebecca (Rick), Russell (Aurora), Brent (Monica); fourteen grandchildren: Morgan, Gage, Stryder, Golden, Carolyn Shayd, Gunnar, Kennedy, Elli, Otto, Ilias, Oliver, Rylee, Solona, Brent; and seven great-grandchildren: Oakley, River, Colette, Krew, Norah, Roper, and Evie Carolyn.
Carolyn was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, PTA, and Scouts. She had a 50-year career in the Fire Service at the local, state, national and international levels. She was among the first woman instructors for the National Fire Academy teaching in all 50 states in addition to teaching for the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute.
Carolyn’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Maryland University College and a Master of Art in Human Services from the Hood College with a specialty in Thanatology (the study of death, dying and grief). Carolyn was a teacher and trusted counselor to many on personal and professional issues.
Carolyn and Burt loved, taught, sailed, traveled, and danced through life together, living in the precious present.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, December 5, 2022 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 8 East Ridgeville in Mt. Airy, MD. 21771
The family will also receive friends from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7255 Ridge Road, Mount Airy, MD 2177. A celebration of Carolyn's life will follow at 11:00 am. Bishop Rohn will officiate.
Interment will be held at Mount Prospect Cemetery, Mount Airy, MD.
