Carolyn Schaffer

Carolyn Elaine (Gross) Schaffer, 76, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.
Born on February 6, 1938, in Mt. Carmel, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow Slifer and Hilda Pearl (Smith) Gross.
Carolyn was a 1956 graduate from Boonsboro High School.
She worked as a nurse's aide at Senior Living Alternatives, Inc., and she was a member of the Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene.
Carolyn is survived by one daughter, Michelle D. Sheffler and husband Rickey, and two sons, Lynn E. Rutherford, Sr. and wife Barbara and Joseph E. Rutherford and wife Angie, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Shirley A. Brashears, and one brother, Richard W. Gross, both of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, Lynn E. Rutherford, Jr., Christopher Rutherford, Ashleigh Evans, and Michael Rutherford; four great grandchildren, and one niece, Kara Cline.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Jim Smith will officiate. Burial will be held privately.
