Carolyn Ruth DeTorres, a remarkable and beloved figure, left us on March 16, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on March 29, 1934, in Miami, Florida, Carolyn spent her life enriching the lives of those around her with her immense kindness and intellect. She is remembered for her career in Special Elementary Education, where her dedication and compassion touched countless young minds, helping them navigate their journeys through education.

An alumna of the University of Miami, Carolyn possessed a sharp and incisive mind, complemented by her quick sense of humor that could light up any room. She was known for her giving nature, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to friends and family alike.

Carolyn had a zest for life that was evident in her diverse interests. Summers spent camping all over the United States spoke to her adventurous spirit, while her love of opera and gardening showcased her appreciation for beauty in both art and nature. Carolyn enjoyed a warm and supportive community at the Bridge Church in Pembroke Pines, Florida, where she was well-loved and formed lasting friendships that enriched her life.

Carolyn will be dearly missed by her son, Glenn Vonk, and his wife, Susan, who cherished her love and guidance. She is also survived by her sister Elaine Quarles of Atlanta, Georgia, alongside the fond memories shared with those who knew her. She is further survived by her Grandchildren Kristen McCann (John), Brian Vonk (Michelle), Joy Kernike (Daniel), Carrie Vonk; and her Great-grandchildren Ariana, Elizabeth, John David, Peter & Winston.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Dundon, and her mother, Esther Dundon, who undoubtedly welcomed her into their embrace once more.

As we reflect on Carolyn's life, we cherish the laughter she shared, the lessons she taught, and the love she freely gave. Her legacy of kindness and the impact she made in the world will continue to resonate with all who were fortunate enough to know her.
