Carolyn Stapish Adamiak

Carolyn Stapish Adamiak was born on July 1, 1933, in Flushing, Michigan, and passed away at Homewood Retirement Center (Frederick, MD) on November 3, 2024. In 1955 she married Stan Adamiak (deceased) in Nutley, New Jersey. They spent 66 years of life together. She was preceded in death by siblings Robert Stapish and Maxine Bacon, and parents Myrtle Livingston and Carl Stapish.

She was a 1951 graduate of Eastern High School in Washington, DC, and in 1954 she completed training at the Presbyterian Nursing School in Westfield, NJ. She worked at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Baltimore County Public Schools, and Medstar Union Memorial Hospital. She also volunteered as a camp nurse at the Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation and the Boy Scout National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, VA.

Carolyn was a member and active volunteer at the Timonium United Methodist Church. 

She also spent more than 50 years shaping the lives of young people through the Boy Scouts of America. She was one of the first female Scoutmasters in the Baltimore Area Council serving as a Den Leader, Explorer Post Advisor, Venture Crew Advisor, and Scoutmaster. She also served as a Unit Commissioner, an Assistant District Commissioner, and Youth Protection Training Advisor. She was a member of the Order of the Arrow, and the recipient of the Dulaney District Award of Merit as well as the Silver Beaver Award from the Baltimore Area Council, BSA. Carolyn enjoyed outdoor activities such as backpacking at Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, NM, canoeing at Quetico Provincial Park (Ontario, Canada), and cycling the 184 miles of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal.

She is survived by her 4 children- daughter, Anne Louise Adamiak (Front Royal, VA), and sons David Stanley (Stacey) of Loudon, TN, Christopher (Rebecca) of Zion Crossroads, VA, and Stanley James (Lisa) of Yakima, WA. Grandchildren include Patrick Halloran (San Antonio, TX), Emily Adamiak (Eugene,OR), Megan Mounts (Washington, DC), Daniel Collin (Erica Hirt) of (Chantilly, VA), and Matthew David (Madeline and great grandchildren Elsie and Benjamin) of (Richmond, VA). Nieces and nephews include John Bacon (Roxene), of Summerville, SC, William Bacon (Jackson, MI), Margaret Johnston (Darrell) of Stafford, VA, Janet Bacon-Dixon (Saranac, MI), Jerry Bacon and Larry Bacon (Bluefield, WV), Levella Tobias and Suzanna Sieh (Brown City, MI).

The family recognizes the outstanding staff at Homewood Retirement Center who provided kind and loving care to Carolyn in her final years.

A celebration of life will be held at Timonium United Methodist Church, (2300 Pot Spring Road Timonium, MD 21093) on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 11 am, the family will receive friends one hour prior. A brief prayer gathering will be held graveside at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carolyn Adamiak Tribute Fund, Scouting of America - Baltimore Area Council, 701 Wyman Park Drive, Baltimore, Maryland, 21211.
