Carole Deegan-McKinney

January 28, 1940 — January 5, 2018

Carole Marie Deegan-McKinney, formerly Carole Marie Sulima, 77, of Frederick, passed from this life on Friday, January 5, 2018 at her residence. She was the wife of almost 35 years to Donald McKinney.  Born on January 28, 1940, in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of James W. Deegan and Eleanor (O'Toole) Deegan.

Mrs. McKinney was an elementary teacher for many years at St. John's Catholic School and later at Visitation Academy, Frederick.  She was a very active parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and took part in many activities.

She deeply cherished her family and friends, and her Catholic faith was very strong and important to her, as was her Irish-Scottish ancestry and heritage.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her 2 sons: Michael Sulima and wife Mary and James Sulima and wife Mary Ann; step-children: David McKinney and wife Tamara, Donald McKinney, Jr. and De'sire'e Slepinski of Germany.  She is additionally survived by 14 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren; Siblings James Deegan and wife June, Patrick Deegan and wife Kathy and Teresa Main and husband Charles (Pete) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.  She will also be missed by her dear friends Rosemary and Lourdes.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John Joseph Sulima.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 9 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with a rosary service being held at 7:30 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick 21702.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, January 10 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick at a later date.
