Carol Wilt

January 1, 1951 — September 7, 2014

Carol D. (Palmer) Wilt, 63, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Born on January 1, 1951, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania,  she was the daughter of the late Donald Eugene and Emma June (Lindy) Palmer.  Her husband, Willard E. Wilt, preceded her in death in 2013.

Carol was a 1969 graduate from Alleghany High School as well  as the Tri State Beauty Academy, both in Cumberland, Maryland.

After working as a beautician for a short time, Carol went to work for the Ponderosa Steak House in La Vale, Maryland, which later became the Sizzler Steak House.  She transfer to the Sizzler in Frederick, Maryland and later became the manager of the Tastee-Freez in Boonsboro.  Carol took up floral design and worked for Wedgewood Florist in Boonsboro, which she later purchased and operated until 1996.  She then was employed by Sharp's Florist in Frederick and Middletown, until she took a job as the designer with Mountainside Florist in Boonsboro.

Carol was a member of (and major fundraiser for) the Blue Ridge Riding Club in Boonsboro.  She will be fondly remembered for her love of horses, horse shows, and especially Bingo.  She was an avid horse enthusiast. Her interest started on the farm with a pony and draft horses.  She purchased her first riding horse and was hooked for life.  She owned several great horses over her lifetime.  As she grew, she found her love of the western pleasure horse.  She loved her yearly journey to the All American Quarter Horse Congress and all the horse shows.  She passed her love of horses to her daughter and they shared that love for many years.

She taught herself floral design and had the artistic talent to take an idea and create a masterpiece.  She was known for her themed arrangements and she could incorporate any theme into a unique floral arrangement.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Stephanie L. Redus and husband William of Keedysville, Maryland; two sisters, Debbie J. Garlitz and husband Arnold of Avilton, Maryland, and Denise A. Almond and husband Chris of La Vale; and two brothers, Dennis E. Palmer of Pennsylvania, and David R. Palmer and wife Lisa of La Vale.  She is also survived by one niece, two nephews, and one great-niece.

A memorial service celebrating Carol's life journey will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  Rev. R. Thomas Fralin, Jr. will officiate.  Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
