Carol Stirling Myers

February 21, 1940 — January 6, 2018

Carol Louise Stirling Myers, age 77, of Thurmont, MD peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior while surrounded by family at 2:00 am on Saturday, January 6, 2018.   She resided at Lorien Assisted Living in Taneytown, MD under Hospice Care since May of 2017.

Born on February 21, 1940, in Elmira, NY, she was the oldest of three children of the late David and Elizabeth Stirling. She graduated from Thurmont High School, class of 1958, and attended one year at Frostburg State College.  Her desire was to become a teacher and when the opportunity to make a difference in her community presented itself, she was instrumental in starting Thurmont Play Center, the first Kindergarten age classes held in the town library.   Her love for education and children continued after her 3 daughters arrived, always being supportive and involved.  She was a PTA president at Thurmont Elementary School and a PTA member as well as a “taxi driver” and “cheerleader” year after year.  She was a dedicated farmer’s wife always helping her husband, Eugene, however she could whether it was bookkeeping, helping to corral cows out on Rt. 15 at two in the morning, or fixing the most wonderful breakfasts for all the farm hands every morning after morning milking’s.

Carol was also involved with and supportive of the Linda L. Elower Studio of Dance and was a Director at St. John’s Pre-School during its infancy.  She loved following the Royal Family, collecting dolls, playing the piano by ear, keeping in touch with her Thurmont High School Alumni and in her later years following Redskins football and Nationals baseball games with Eugene. She travelled with her husband and family to many places and enjoyed small town living.  She was a devoted grandmother and was at her grandchildren’s activities as often as possible whether it was Hagerstown, MD or all the way to San Diego, CA.  She was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and loved being present to worship with her church family.

She is survived by her daughters Beth (Kim Gore) Myers, Tina (John) Duckworth and Kathy (Joe) Wolfman; granddaughters, Megan (Andy) Williams and Sarah Duckworth, grandsons, Justin and Jordan Wolfman; and siblings, Judy Wedgewood and James (Dana) Stirling.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street, Thurmont, MD on Friday, January 12 from 3-5pm and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 101 East Main Street, Thurmont, MD at 11 am. Interment will immediately follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Thurmont Senior Citizens Center @ 806 East Main Street Thurmont MD 21788 or Trinity United Church of Christ @ 101 East Main Street Thurmont MD 21788.
