Carol had a lifelong love of caring for others and a passion for music. She was loved, supported, and cherished by her husband of 65 years, Harold E. Jones. Carol was born in Lonaconing, Maryland on March 7, 1935, and passed away in Pikesville, Maryland on December 22, 2024, at the age of 89.
She is forever loved and survived by her daughter Lisa (Jones) Mullins, her spouse Andrew Mullins, their two children Megan and Eric Mullins, daughters in law, Cassie Mullins and Audrey Seningen, and great grandchildren Mae and Leo Mullins. Her parents were Elsie (Packe) Foote and William Chester Foote Sr. Her brothers were William Foote Jr and Robert Foote, all of whom have passed. She was especially adored and nurtured by her aunt, Katherine Freeman. Carol was welcomed into the Jones family when she married Harold on January 10,1959.
Carol graduated from Central High School in Lonaconing, Maryland in 1953. She attended the Washington County Hospital School of Nursing and earned her professional nursing license from the Maryland State Board of Nursing in 1956. To advance her nursing career, she also graduated from Mount St. Mary’s University with B.S. of Professional Arts in 1979. Carol shared her empathic gift as a registered nurse for 53 years, serving the bulk of her career at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland officially retiring in 2009. She made many lifelong friends in this community of nurses, and she was an active member of the Nurses Alumni Association. Carol served as president of the Western Maryland Society of Peri-anesthesia and as president of the Chesapeake Society of Peri-anesthesia nurses. She was devoted to caring for others and applied her remarkably compassionate nature to serving her community both through her career and her personal life. She volunteered as a parish nurse at Otterbein United Methodist Church and served in choirs through her life at the church she regularly attended and as a guest soloist for other churches. She was most recently a member of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
Carol was an avid quilter, a great friend and social butterfly, and book club member. She enjoyed annual trips to the beach and New York City with her friend group. Carol was diagnosed with vascular dementia at the age 87 and she and Harold moved to a memory care assisted living community in Pikesville in December 2023 for her care and safety. Despite her illness, Carol’s inherent drive to nurture and connect with others persisted as she was often seen caring for and bonding with other memory care patients.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hagerstown Church of the Brethren’s Samaritan Fund in Carol’s name would be welcomed and appreciated. Donations can be made using the paypal link on the church’s website: hagerstowncob.org; or mail directly to the church.
