Carl Thomas, Sr.

January 29, 1920 — December 4, 2014

Mr. Carl Cornelius Thomas Sr of Frederick died Dec 4 2014.  He was the husband of the late Margaret Ellen (Butler) Thomas whom he married 6/15/1949. Born 1/29/1920 in Adamstown, he was son of the late Clarence Cornelius Curtis Thomas and Jessie Lee (Diller) Thomas.

Mr. Thomas was a 1937 Frederick HS graduate and attended Western Md. College.  He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army 36th Air Depot Group during the North African & Italian campaigns.  He was a 50-yr member of the Masonic Lynch Lodge #163 which later merged with Columbia Lodge #58 and the PABG of Jobs Daughters Bethel 28. Mr. Thomas was a charter member of Carroll Manor Lions Club and later with the Yellow Springs Lions Club which he chartered while he was District Governor of District
22W.

After returning from military service, he worked in DC with the Veterans Administration. He left there to be partner with his father and brother in P.L. Hargett Co. After the family  business was sold he worked for the Frederick County Government being the first Director  of Personnel, Rices Color Center and various local hardware stores.

He is survived by his children Emily L. Baker (Chet), Evelyn M. Fisher and Carl C. Thomas,Jr. (Cathy); sister, Martha M. Thomas; grandchildren Craig, Jacob & Heather (Baker), Mark and Katelyn (Fisher) and Carly (Thomas);and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Harvey L. Thomas.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Tranquillity at Fredericktowne and the Carroll
County Hospice for their care.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick , Sunday, December 7, from 2-4:00 pm, where a Masonic Service will be held at 3:00 pm

Interment will be Mt Olivet Cemetery at the family's convenience.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carl’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, 1120 G. Street, N.W., Suite 700, Washington, D.C.  20005.
