Carl Calvin Emerick, Jr. left his earthly life on Aug 4 at Lorien Rehab Center in Mt. Airy. He was born October 20, 1936, in Lonaconing, MD to Carl and Edith Emerick. He is survived by his wife, Richelle, of New Market and six wonderful children: Michael of Chapel Hill, NC; Stephen and wife Robin of Cumberland, MD; Scott of Hagerstown, MD; Brandon Stumpf and Samantha McKnight of Seattle, WA; Thomas and wife Hope of Keedysville, MD; Heidi Walsh and Michael Delauter of West Friendship, MD. He is also survived by grandchildren: Katrina Cooper, her husband Kenny, Frostburg, MD; Jared and Justin Shollay and Ali Emerick, Hagerstown; Ryan and Nathan Walsh, West Friendship, MD; Eli and Rowan Emerick, Chapel Hill, NC; Troy Emerick, Keedysville, MD and Bailey and Sydney Stumpf, Seattle, WA; and, also two great grandsons Owen and Kaden Cooper. Also surviving, his sister-in-law, Sandra Kuka of Denver, Co. and two nieces Korina Keller and Holly Lozano and their families, in addition to aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
Education consumed Carl’s entire life beginning with grade school, continuing through college and into his career. He touched many lives with his calm, convincing style as a teacher, college administrator, mentor and through his educational consulting. He was a member of the Naval National Reserves.
After his retirement in 1995, Carl enjoyed serving his community in a number of ways, traveling, reading, playing tennis and enjoying his family and friends. Carl loved his morning walks with his dog, Emmi, boat rides on the lake where he and Richelle lived, fishing and hunting and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with his many friends at Camp Kanawha.
Carl’s family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD. A celebration of his life will begin at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Don Turley officiating.
