C. Wilburn

Mr. C. Mason Wilburn, 75, of Mt. Airy, died on Tuesday October 19, 2010, at Kline Hospice, Mt. Airy. He was the loving husband of Virginia Crabb Pope Wilburn.

Born on February 1, 1935 in Seat Pleasant, MD. He was the son of the late John Stanley and Nancy Gibbons Wilburn.
He retired in 1988 from C & P Telephone. He was a member of 40-8 Voiture Locale # 155, the American Legion Gold Star 191, Mt. Airy where he was a former finance officer. He was a member of the Historic Society of Mt. Airy where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005. A member of Centennial Lodge # 174 for 50 years and was Citizen of the year for Mt. Airy Rotary in 1992.
Mason enjoyed taking care of the ball field at the Mt. Airy Legion. He had a great sense of humor and loved golfing, fishing and all sports. He was raised on a tobacco farm and loved his tractors. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children; Richard A. Wilburn and wife Belinda, Dennis E. Wilburn and wife Terry, David A. Wilburn and wife Kim and Steven L. Pope and wife Penny, 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. One sister, Norma Coffren. daughter-in-law Lillian Wilburn, sister-in-law June Wilburn. He was preceded in death by a son Charles M. Wilburn Jr, grandson Charles M. Wilburn III and brother John S. Wilburn Jr.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9pm on Friday October 22, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy, where funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday in the funeral home. Reverend Laura L. Schultz will officiate.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Allan, Doug, Daniel, Steven, Keith and Matt. Honorary Bearers will be, Manuel Quinones, Charlie Ridgely, Dominic Naples, George Rue, Phil Collison, Don Eader and John Foertschbeck. Interment will be private.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions should be made to the American Diabetes Association, 800 Wyman Park Drive, # 110, Baltimore, MD 21211 or to the Kline Hospice House in care of Hospice of Frederick County, P. O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
