Byron J. Greene, Jr.(“Johnny”), Major, U.S. Army (ret.) of New Market, MD died on Friday, September 10, 2010, at his home. He was the loving and beloved husband of Mary C. (Murphy) Greene.

Mr. Greene was born on January 26, 1949, in Goldsboro, NC, the son of the late Byron J. Sr., and Margaret Becton Greene. He served with the 82 nd Airborne, Military Intelligence, commanded the 332 MI Company in Korea for 3 years, and was with INSCOM Support Battalion at Ft.Belvoir. As a young man he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout; he later belonged to the Association of the U. S. Army, Masonic Lodge # 0634 (Goldsboro, NC), Shriners International (New Bern, NC), American Legion Post 1976 (Annandale, VA), the NC State Alumni Association, and was a member of the Madison Avenue Baptist Church, Goldsboro, NC. He was an esteemed colleague for seventeen years at the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Mr. Greene is survived by his daughter, Margaret Caroline Greene, stepson Kenneth Lowell Murphy, cousins Lynette Parker, Ann Morgan, Melanie Fulkerson, Franklin Flowers, and William Flowers, and aunts Carolyn Flowers and Alma Morris.
Friends may call from 2–4 pm and 7–9 pm on Monday, September 13, 2010, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at the UniversityBaptistChurch, 3515 Campus Drive, College Park, MD20740. The Reverend John P. Burns will officiate. Interment will be in CrownsvilleVeteransCemetery.
