Brummett McClendon

November 4, 1942 — October 23, 2008

Brummett Jerald "Jerry" McClendon, age 65, of 2603 Chestnut Grove Road, Sharpsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at his home.

Born Nov. 4, 1942 in Amarillo, Texas, he was a son of Brummett McClendon of Colorado Springs, CO, and the late Dorothy Morgan McClendon.

Jerry was a happy and smart child as he grew up in Amarillo, always asking for explanations for why things were the way there were. From his first grade test scores to his retirement in 1999, numbers were always his strength.

Jerry graduated from Tascosa High School in Amarillo in 1960. He obtained his B.A. degree in math from Texas Tech in 1965 and a M.S. in statistics from Kansas State in 1967. Jerry worked 32 years for the U.S. Public Health Service's Bureau of Health Professions. He obtained the grade of GM-15, the highest basic civil service rank.

Jerry made projections of the need for physicians, dentists and other health personnel. He participated in and supervised numerous statistical studies and research projects.

Jerry was a very social person who loved sports, his greenhouse, music, photography, traveling (especially camping), and just plain talking.

In addition to his father, Jerry is survived by his wife, Karen Louise Mason McClendon, whom he married April 6, 1963; one son, Brent J. McClendon and wife Barbara of Fairfax, VA; one sister, Phyllis Mc. Brady of Colorado Springs, CO; one brother, Larry R. McClendon of Colorado Springs, CO; and one granddaughter, Erin B. McClendon of Fairfax, VA.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing or visitation.
