Bruce Gordon Twambly, a long-time resident of Windsor, CT and more recently of Lovettsville, VA, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024 in Fairfax, VA. Bruce was preceded to heaven by his wife, Joan Elizabeth; and is survived by his three sons, Bruce John, Mark, and Thomas; his grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Graham, Megan and Dashiell; and his sister, Cindy Runyan, of Florida.

He was born on January 27, 1939 to the late Gordon and Edith Twambly. After graduating from high school in New London, CT, he entered the United States Coast Guard Academy, where he met his future wife, Joan, at a dance. After graduating in the Class of 1961 (Never Outdone!) and marrying Joan, he served as an engineering officer in various assignments ashore and afloat. They were joined by sons, Bruce John and Mark, along the way. After leaving the service, the family settled in Windsor, CT, where son Thomas was born. Bruce worked for the next 35 years as an engineer for different United Technologies divisions, earning an MBA from the University of Connecticut and eventually retiring from Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks.

Bruce was an active member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, in Windsor, where he used his beautiful bass voice to help lead services as a cantor and member of the parish choir. Music of all sorts, ranging from ABBA to classical, was a passion throughout his life. After retirement, Bruce and Joan traveled the world, often on cruises to exotic locales. In 2016, Bruce and Joan relocated to Lovettsville, VA, to be closer to their family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Community Church, 7321 Burkittsville Road in Middletown with Rev. Michael Rubeling officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Brunswick.
