Bruce Kitchen

Bruce M. Kitchen, 96, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Village at Robinwood in Hagerstown. Bruce was a resident of Diakon Senior Living since September 2014. His wife of 61 years, Lucille Avis (Smith) Kitchen preceded him in death.

Born on September 24, 1923, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he was the son of Wesley K. and Jane (Snyder) Kitchen.

He served in the U.S. Army 92nd A.F.A. in Korea.  He was very active in the American Legion Post 10 of Boonsboro of which he was a member for nearly 70 years.  He was a past commander of the post, and a Honorary Life member.

Bruce retired in 1985 from Pangborn Corporation in Hagerstown with over 30 years of service.  After his retirement he spent his time at a part time job that he very much enjoyed at the Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown and at the American Legion in Boonsboro helping out.  He also loved to mow grass and did so for many of his neighbors and other friends.  Bruce was well known to always be willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his son, Eric B. Kitchen of Boonsboro; and many nieces and nephews. Bruce was from a large farming family, he was one of eighteen siblings.  He was the last survivor being preceded in death by Paul, Raymond, Leon (Jack), Charles, Leona Reeder, Josephine Golliday, Lucille Kefauver, Amanda Myers, Lyda Crawford, Dorothy Staley, Ann Kitchen, Katie Kitchen, Lucy Kitchen, Flarnce Kitchen, Eugene, Martin, and half brother George Snyder.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.

Graveside services at Boonsboro Cemetery will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4th with Rev. Bill Smith officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 10, 710 North Main Street in Boonsboro.
