Brett Lee Winters, 32, of Frederick, passed away unexpectedly in his home on the night of Thursday, December 19, 2019.

He arrived in the early morning of September 19, 1987, in Melbourne, Florida to David and Lucinda Winters.

Brett attended school in Palm Bay, Florida before moving to Holland, Michigan where he attended Holland High School. He moved to Virginia in 2007 and went to New River Community College in Radford before finally relocating to Frederick, Maryland.

Brett was naturally athletic and especially enjoyed baseball and golf; he was an avid Washington Nationals fan, having once tried out to be a racing president. He was fun loving, caring, fearless, adventurous, funny and determined. Brett overcame many hardships in his life, and burned bright like a candle in the darkness.

Brett was loved and important to many. If he picked on you, you knew he liked you. He was a private person who did hot share his feelings easily, but he loved having fun with his friends. Brett will be missed and not forgotten.

He is survived by mother and step father, Lucinda and Kerry Verbeek of Frederick and his father and step mother, David and Dee Winters of Palm Gardens, Florida; brother, sister-in-law and nephew Samuel, Erica and Michael Winters of St. Augustine, FL; grandfather Joseph Winters of Trenton, NJ; uncle Scott Winters of Brick, NJ; aunt Karen Schaffer of Sioux Falls, SD; step sisters Julia and Jillian Verbeek; niece Arianna and nephew Zaiden of Muskegon, Michican and step brothers: Travis Verbeek in Michigan and DJ, Greg and Lee Winters all in Florida; as well as his cat "Leila" who will be well cared for in a cat loving home.

Celebrations of Brett's life will be held at a later time so his many friends can share memories in Holland, Radford and St. Augustine.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to the causes that were important to Brett which were the Humane Society and Feeding America.
