Mrs. Blanche Virginia Brawner Slaughter Nelson, 83 of Charles Town, WV, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at her home. She was the wife of the late Strand Scott Nelson.

Born August 6, 1927 in Brunswick, MD., she was the daughter of the late Ferris Dotridge, Sr. and Ellan Shultz Cannon Brawner.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Pleasantville Church of God. She was a graduate of Brunswick High School. Blanche was the owner of "Mostly Country" in Harpers Ferry, WV where many of her paintings were displayed and sold. She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her family, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her dogs Sadie and Nellie. She was a wonderful homemaker. Her passion in life other than her family was painting, cooking and baking pies for family and friends.

She is survived by her children Linda Snider and husband Irvin F of New Oxford, PA, Deborah Mason-Rooney and husband John M of Frederick MD, Stephen F. Slaughter and wife Cathy of Middletown, MD and Larry G. Slaughter of Charles Town, WV, grandchildren Laura Slaughter, Mary Slaughter, Michael Slaughter and wife Julie, Erica Rutters and husband Bryan, Jessica Storm and husband Joey and Chris Snider , Stephen W. Mason and wife Abbey, Meghan Rooney, Stephanie Hausler and husband Shane, Andrew Slaughter and wife Stephanie, Rebecca Boyer and husband Jerome, great grandchildren John and Kristin Slaughter, Chloe, Laurel, and Ivy Rutters, Isla Storm, Peyton Mason, Emma and Grant Hausler, Owen and Natalie Slaughter, Chase, Cody and Anna Boyer and her daughter-in-law Lorna Slaughter.

She was preceded in death by a son Gary R. Slaughter, a granddaughter Sarah D. Thompson, her brothers William, John, Ferris Dotridge, Jr, Jack and Dennis Brawner and a sister Doris B. Wilt.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Avenue, Brunswick, MD on Wednesday, August 11, from 6 - 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 12, at 1:00 p.m. from the Pleasantville Church of God, 928 Harpers Ferry Road, Knoxville, MD. Interment Brownsville Cemetery
