Bill Tewes

June 14, 1944 — December 14, 2024

Frederick

On December 14, 2024, the world lost a loving husband, devoted father, father-in-law, and cherished grandfather, Bill “Pappy” Tewes. His peaceful passing at Frederick Health Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, marked the end of a life well-lived. Born to the late William Frederick and Dorothy (Hodder) Tewes on June 14, 1944, in Pittsburgh, PA, Bill's journey was filled with love, family, and dedication.

Bill’s talents as a skilled keyboardist paid his way through the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. His 37-year career at Bechtel was marked by his passion and expertise, where he started as a project estimator and then as a project manager for several major construction contracts ranging from nuclear and waste energy power to major rail projects. His work took him all over the country as well as extended time in Brazil and Kuwait.

Family meant everything to Bill. Widowed at 44, he embraced the challenge of single parenthood with strength and love. It was at a Parents without Partners Hubcaps concert where he met his next love, Phyllis. They married in 1992, blending their families into one. Bill's pride in his children and grandchildren was evident in every story he shared and every moment he spent with them.

Bill loved his family, fishing, and enjoying every moment at his beloved second home in Lake Anna, VA. He was very proud his children and grandkids and all their accomplishments. He enjoyed attending their sporting events and concerts. Combining his love for family and fishing, Bill scheduled charter fishing trips annually for his kids, spouses and grandkids out of Solomon’s, MD, one of his favorite places. He continued his love of fishing from his dock and pontoon boat at Lake Anna. Nothing made him happier than watching his family fishing and swimming from his dock.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Phyllis; his devoted children Michelle Peterson (Larry) and Melissa Anne Riley; his caring bonus children David Crummitt (Christine) and Ann Smith (Kenny); his adored grandchildren Ryan Miller (Afnan), Margaret Gaeth (Thomas), Conner and Katie Crummitt, Dylan and Ashton Smith; and his supportive brother Dennis Tewes (Somruedi). He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Patricia Ann Tewes (Bowser), his brother Mark Tewes, and his brother-in-law, James F. Bowser.
