Mr. Bill Gene Mahlandt, 85, of Frederick, MD., passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Somerford Place. He was the husband of Kathryn (Kitty) Greenawalt Mahlandt, the love of his life for 62 years.
Bill was born July 22, 1928 in Carlinville, Illinois, the son of the late Edward and Lorine Mahlandt.
He came to Ft. Detrick as a soldier and remained as a chemist for 35 years. After retiring, he went to work for Salk Institute for another 6 years. Bill graduated from Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, Signa XI, the Scientific Research Society, lifetime member of the American Legion Post #11. Bill loved to swim, hike, camp and ride his bike.
Surviving besides his wife, are his children and grandchildren; son Mark W. Mahlandt (deceased), daughter Karen L. Lewns (Wayne) and their children Colin Klein (Esther) and Brandy Klein, daughter Gail A. Mahlandt (John Augustine) their children Christine Main, Michael Main, Sr. (Sandra) and their children Noelle, Ava, Michael, Jr and Madeline Augustine, son Karl E. Mahlandt (Lisa) their children Katherine Grant (Joe), Gabriel and Lucas, Sarah Mahlandt, Elizabeth Mahlandt and Bruce G. Mahlandt (Janice) their children Jonathan Mahlandt, Alexander Mahlandt, Jessie Myers and Meredith Myers, sister Lois Meier, nephews Paul and John and nieces Ann and Mary and brother John Mahlandt (deceased).
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Wednesday, May 28, from 2-4 and 7-9pm, where services will be held Thursday, May 29, at 11:00 am
Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Contributions may be expressed to the Alzheimers Association or the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick.
