Thurmont

Beverly Mae Shoemaker, 85, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy, Maryland with her devoted daughter by her side. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jack, to whom she was married nearly 60 years.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Thomas P. and Madeline W. (Smith) Cramer.
Beverly graduated in 1956 from Frederick High School although in her young life she attended six schools in six years in Frederick and Montgomery counties.  Through this she developed her out-going nature and never knew a stranger.

Upon graduating high school, Beverly worked at Farmers and Mechanics Bank until the birth of her daughter, Carole. The friendships she made at that time remained with her throughout her life.

Beverly was a life-long member of Glade United Church of Christ in Walkersville, where she remained active until her passing.

With true giving spirit, Beverly enjoyed life and took on many volunteer positions both in the church and the community.
Beverly was proud of forming a support group for TMJ sufferers as she was one of the first in the area to have this surgery. She remained active in the National Association and always took phone calls offering words of support and advice to others who were dealing with this issue.

Beverly was a life member of the Frederick County Farm Museum, Rose Hill, a life member of the Great Frederick Fair where she served as Superintendent of the Farm and Garden Building from 1983-1987. Additionally, she was a member of Frederick County Landmarks and Heritage Farm Community Commons.  She served as an election judge for many years in Precinct 26.

Beverly volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Drive programs and the American Cancer Society where she participated in “Daffodil Days.”

In her home community of Walkersville, she helped at the Glade Valley Food Bank and spent many years assisting with the Walkersville Carnival.

She was also a member of Rose Hill Garden Club, Walkersville Homemakers Club, Pleasant Walk Homemakers, Walkersville Rescue Company 24 and Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Frederick Class of 56 “Card Club,” a special friend group whose connections go back to their elementary school days.

Beverly enjoyed travelling, country dancing with her husband, crafts, antiques and sharing her own antique toys and baskets with others.

Beverly is survived by her daughter, Carole A. Shoemaker and her soul-mate, Thomas G. Whalen; her cousins, Sharon and Brent Smith (Tina); and all of her husband’s siblings, Shirley A. Eyler (“Sam,” deceased), Joan F. Lenhart (“Sammy”), Mary C. Frymyer (“Dick,” deceased), John “Joe” Shoemaker, Robert S. Shoemaker (“Frannie”) and Diane Stine (“Walt,” deceased); and numerous nieces, nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
