Betty Louise Winn

Betty Louise Winn, 75, of Walkersville, passed away on Saturday, July 5th after a brief illness.

Betty was the wife of Richard A. Winn, to whom she was married for 55 short years. Born on April 25, 1933, in Red Lion, Pa., she was the daughter of Luther A.Curran and Margaret (Trimmer) Curran. Betty graduated from Red Lion High School in 1950.

She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother, and was briefly employed as a waitress/hostess at the Frederick Holiday Inn.

Since moving to Walkersville in 1959, she has served her church, the Walkersville United Methodist Church, by singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and serving as substitute organist/pianist, as well as many other activities.

In the field of music, she was a member of the Red Lion Lutheran church choir, high school chorus, the Frederick Community Chorus, and was organist for several nearby churches. Her voluntary activities included that of a Girl Scout Leader, delivering daffodils for the American Cancer Society, working for the Walkersville Food Bank, and assisting with fire company buffets.

She was a member of the Walkersville Homemakers Club, Walkersville Rescue Service, and Walkersville Senior Citizens. The songs of Perry Como were her favorites.

In later years, she thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially their trips to Alaska, Canada, and Hawaii, and their many cruises.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters and one son: Nita Gross and husband Douglas, of Gettysburg, Pa; Tina Green and husband David, of Walkersville; Ruby Hebb, and husband Roger, of Middletown; Brad Winn and wife Lori, of Walkersville; six grandchildren: Jen Hebb, Tim Gross and wife Stephanie, Christi and Brian Green, and Lindsay and Josh Winn. She is also survived by a sister, Peggy Keener of Windsor Pa., a brother, Joseph Curran, of Spring City, Pa., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Frances Smallbrook.

Visitation: Viewing will be on Thursday, July 10 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, MD between the hours of 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm.

Services: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on July 11 at the Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main Street, Walkersville, MD 21793. Graveside services will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the memorial fund of Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main Street, Walkersville, MD 21793 or the Glade Valley Community Services' Food Bank, P.O. Box 655, Walkersville, MD. 21793.
