Mrs. Betty L. {Dill} Mackenzie, 75 of Brunswick, Maryland, born February 6, 1932, in Frederick, Maryland beloved daughter of the late Harry H. and Ella Mae Smith and beloved wife of the late Eugene Mackenzie, her husband of 55 years, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 1, 2007, after an extended illness.
She passed peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family and loving caretaker Jean.
She is survived by son Garry R. Mackenzie of Hagerstown, daughter Sylvia J. Puddy and husband John of Brunswick and granddaughters, Amanda L. Nicola and finance' Chad Carter and Tenaya M. Ramey all of Brunswick and brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Kate Smith of Martinsburg, WV.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene R. Mackenzie, son Gerald S. Mackenzie, brother Harry H. Smith, Jr and sister and brother-in-law, Eva and Tom Pratt.
She was dearly loved by many other family members which included niece, Josephine Jo Lamb and husband James Pooch, niece, Jeanne Unglebower and late husband Charles Snook; nephew, David Pratt and wife Judy and nephew, Thornton Huck Pratt.
Betty was a graduate of Frederick High School, class of 1950 and employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant with the Vindobona Nursing Home in Braddock for over 25 years, retiring in 1995.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and pets, watching game shows and working crossword puzzles.
In early years shopping trips, dinning out and cheering on the Redskins along side her husband Gene were her favorite pass times. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother as well as a friend to many.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Avenue, Brunswick, on Monday, November 5 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.
Services:
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 6 at 11:00am with Pastor Gary Hubble officiating.
Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens with lunch following at Mountain Gate Family Restaurant in Thurmont, one of Betty's favorite luncheon spots
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Avenue, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Maryland 21702.
