Mrs. Betty L. Brown, 68 of Thurmont, MD., passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, Wednesday, December 2, 2009. She was the wife of John W. E. Brown.

Mrs. Brown was born March 3, 1941 in Lantz, MD., the daughter of the late James Arthur and Catherine E. Wetzel McKissick.

Mrs. Brown was co-owner of Brown's Jewelry and Gift Shop for 29 years.. She and her husband John always enjoyed meeting and working with their valued customers.

Mrs. Brown was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Thurmont.

Betty was dedicated to the mission of St. John's Preschool. As a former preschool teacher, and as the current chairperson, Betty spent 36 years ensuring that hundreds of young children in the community received a quality educational experience.

However, her real passion was her time spent with her family. Committed as a wife, mother, and grandmother, Betty thoroughly enjoyed being with her family. An important annual event that Betty treasured was vacationing in North Carolina with her grandchildren, Eric and Emily

Eric and Emily brought her great joy and being with them was a great pleasure for her.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter Stacey Brown-Hobbs and husband Michael F. Hobbs of Thurmont,two grandchildren
Eric William Hobbs and Emily Catherine Hobbs, a sister Mary V. Lantz of Gettysburg, two nieces JoEllen Miller and Patricia Minnich and a nephew Harvey Wetzel.

She was preceded in death by a brother Eugene McKissick, a sister Elsie Wetzel and a nephew Franklin Lantz.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD, Friday, December 4, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 9:00 p.m.

Services: Services will be held Saturday, December 5, at 11:00 a.m. From the St. John's Lutheran Church, 15 N. Church Street, Thurmont with Pastor Craig Moorman officiating.
Entombment Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont
