Betty Jane (Smith) Swain, 83, of Hagerstown, died peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown.
Born on September 21, 1926, in Downsville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Arthur M. and Ruth Elizabeth (Harbaugh) Smith.
Her husband of 64 years, Elwood "Bert" Swain, preceded her in death on November 9, 2006.
Mrs. Swain was employed as a School Bus Driver for the Washington County Board of Education for 13 years.
Betty was a member of the Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown.
She is survived by her two daughters, Eugenia L. Vincent of Hagerstown, Maryland and E. Ann Moore of Martinsburg, West Virginia; three brothers, Robert Smith of Easton, Maryland and Charles and Richard Smith of Hagerstown, Maryland; two grandchildren, Stephanie Vanorsdale of Martinsburg, West Virginia and Heather Thompson of Hagerstown, Maryland; and four great-grandchildren, Anthony, Seth, Jacob and Katelyn.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Arthur Smith.
Friends may visit beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland, where the family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the Funeral Home. Pastor Brian G. Kelley will officiate. Interment will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.
