Betty Zentz

Betty R. Zentz, 90, of Thurmont, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on December 31, 2014.  Born in Thurmont on February 27, 1924, Betty was the daughter of the late Clinton Blickenstaff and Viola (Pryor) Blickenstaff and she was the youngest of five sisters.

Betty dedicated her professional life to helping others. She was enrolled as a member of the U.S. Nurse Cadet Corp during World War II. She was later employed at Thurmont Elementary School as a teacher’s aide where she cherished her time supporting the education of children.

Betty’s personal life was spent creating a legacy of love for her family and many friends. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her family. She always opened her house and her heart to everyone around her.

Betty is survived by her devoted children, William Zentz and his wife Candy of Thurmont, Patricia Moning and her husband Buck of Hagerstown, and daughter-in-law Sue Zentz of West Orange, NJ. She will be greatly missed by her sister, Evelyn Godwin of Chesterfield, VA; her sister-in-law Connie Fox and her family of Thurmont; her six grandchildren, Kim Woltman, Daniel Thorpe, Alanna Eisenberg, Jessica Zentz-Ridenour, Warren Zentz, and Carroll Zentz; as well as her great-grandchildren, Adeline and Grayson Ridenour, Avery Eisenberg, and Dylan Peeble. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 52 years, Philip Zentz, and her loving son H. Alan Zentz.

The family will receive friends from 12 - 1pm on Saturday, January 3rd at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street, Thurmont, MD. A celebration of Betty’s life will begin at 1pm at the funeral home and interment will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont.

Betty will be missed by all who knew her for her wit, humor, and dedication to her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Betty’s name to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 15 North Church Street, Thurmont, MD, 21788.
