Mrs. Betty Lee Young, 84 of Thurmont, MD., passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Glade Valley Center. She was the wife of the late Austin L. Young.
Born April 9, 1928 in Catoctin Furnace, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Jessie Katherine Reed Stitely.
In earlier years Betty worked at the Thurmont Shoe Factory and Claire Frock. She was a member of Harriet Chapel Episcopal Church. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving family, bird watching and caring for her pets. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks for the exceptional care provided by the Glade Valley Center.
She is survived by three daughters Sandy Mendenhall and John Muller of Waynesboro, PA, Cindy More' and husband Dan of Mt. Airy and Cathy Higgs and husband Glen of Emmitsburg, grandchildren Lori Swiney and husband Malcolm, Neil Draper and wife Gin, Wendy Nibeck and husband Mike, Stephanie Jensen and husband Jeff, Christopher Higgs and Jennifer Bassler and husband Bruce. Thirteen great grandchildren, her sister Joan Portner, her brother Gary Stitely. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD on Sunday, February 10, from 2-5 pm, where services will be held Monday, February 11, at 11:00 am with Rev. Ron Reaves officiating.
Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
