Betty Violet
July 20, 1942 — January 7, 2014
Betty Joanne (Mason) Violet , 71, of Rohrersville, Maryland, passed from this life on January 7, 2014 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Eugene Violet who passed on February 16, 1991.
Born on July 20, 1942, in Rohrersville, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth Aileene (Snyder) Mason. She was a 1960 graduate from Boonsboro High School. She worked as a School Bus Driver for the Washington County Public Schools for over 30 years.
Betty was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was an active member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church at Locust Grove. She also was an active member of her community at large, where she volunteered her time and talent in the service of others, including many local charities. Betty also worked tirelessly to support the Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Services Company 69 helping with fundraising programs.
She is survived by her daughter of Deanna A. Holder and husband, Glenn of Rohrersville; son Perry A. Violet and wife, Tina of Keedysville, Maryland; sisters Dorothy A. Moser and husband, Hurley of Rohrersville, Marie E. Bikle and husband Mark of Boonsboro, Maryland, and Janet L. Norris and husband, Chester of Williamsport, Maryland; brothers Donald C. Mason and wife, Lois of Rohrersville, and Richard H. Mason and wife Barbara of Keedysville; and by grandchildren, Devin Holder, Grace Holder, Hannah Violet and Andrew Violet.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her son, Eugene E. Violet and brother, David K. Mason.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Mount Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Locust Grove. Family and friends will gather for a reception immediately following the graveside service at Mt. Zion Friendship Hall across from the cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home.
