Mrs. Betty V. Smith, 86, longtime resident of Ijamsville, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late C. Gordon Smith, who predeceased her in 2003.
Born February 21, 1927 in Adamstown, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Ollie Mae Thomas.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of the Frederick Hospital School of Nursing. After 31 years as a charge nurse in critical care at Frederick Memorial Hospital, she retired in 1991.
She was an avid quilter and has several of her quilts on display in the discharge lobby at FMH. She loved tending to her flower gardens. Mrs. Smith especially loved watching the horses on the family farm, Good Friday Farm.
She is survived by her son, Tom Smith and wife, Judy; her daughter, Ann Gabrielle; two granddaughters, Gretchen Zablocki and husband, Paul, and Jennifer Kelly and husband, Tim; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Thomas and his wife, Gloria.
Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should assemble by 10:50 a.m. by the FSK Chapel at the cemetery. Officiating services will be Rev. Dr. Elsabeth S. Hilke.
